Winter ball: a dance that in past years has been seen as “lame” and “poorly lit with bad music.” With school dances, since a lot of the rules discourage potential dancers from letting go and just going for it, it usually isn’t really a lot of fun or it isn’t a night filled with a lot of excitement.
But if you ask me, Winter ball was an absolute blast. To begin, the idea of a red rose themed dance was not only creative but adorable. The candle lit tables covered in rose petals in kisses was a very romantic touch to the dance. With the fact that the dance was the day after Valentine’s Day was probably a perfect coincidence.
The gym was also beautifully decorated. Considering what past dances showed, I was really impressed by what the Vikettes and all who helped decorate it came up with.
But, I thought the fake rose petals on the floor was a bit too much. I kept stepping on them with my bare feet after five minutes the dance began and my wedges came off. It was a major inconvenience to me, and I’m sure others who were prancing around the dance floor.
As for the rest of the dance, the fact that there were free cookies offered at the beginning if the dance adds 500 points. As for the dance itself in general, it was nothing but fun. I don’t understand why a lot of upper class man see underclassmen as annoying and as kids that might ruin everyone’s fun.
I thought they brought a very fun and exciting atmosphere that everyone got into. And I mean everyone. Well, most of everyone.
Not to mention the awesome DJ’s at the dance were phenomenal. Especially TJ who didn’t hesitate to join in on the dance and show us how to do it right. The most memorable was the “love slide” which got a lot of students to go out to the dance floor and shake what their mamas gave them.
The best part hands down was the choo-choo train. That night, Northwest had their longest and largest train ever. It was nice to see everyone having a good time and just focus on the fun of the night. This was a chance for everyone to just let go, take a chance, and have fun for the night.
Winter ball was a night that was unforgettable.
